We offer lifeguard certification and recertification classes at various times of the year. THE NEXT CERTIFICATION CLASS IS SET FOR DEC. 28-30, 10 AM TO 6 PM EVERY DAY. The skills test is Dec. 28 at 10 am. Candidates must attend all sessions.

Preference is given to those who apply for jobs at the YMCA pool and the City of Keokuk pool, but we will try to accommodate the needs of everyone. If you have questions, please ask.

A skills test is required of potential new guards. Candidates must perform a 300-yard swim, retrieve a brick from the deep end and tread water for 2 minutes. Upon passing, candidates move on to classroom and in-water trainings

Preference is given to potential Hoerner YMCA and City of Keokuk pool lifeguards. Others admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Regular cost of full course is $200; recertification is $85. Candidates must be age 15 or older.
